A private dolphin day. Skip the crowds, take your time, choose your route.
About this trip
Same lagoon, your boat. The captain has been working Dolphin House since 2008 and reads the pod's morning movement, you go where the dolphins are, not where the day-trip operators put you. We can extend the day to include a stop at Erg Marsa Mubarak on the way back if conditions permit.
Leaving at 06:30 changes the odds
The day-trip fleet leaves port around 08:00 and reaches the lagoon mid-morning. A private boat leaves at 06:30, which means arriving while the pod is still settled in the inner lagoon and the water is quiet. That is the single biggest lever on a dolphin trip, and it is worth being clear that it is a lever on the quality of the encounter rather than a guarantee of one. These are wild animals and no departure time changes that. What an early start changes is whether you meet them in an undisturbed lagoon or after a dozen engines have pushed them toward the outer reef. The private speedboat achieves something similar for a shorter day. The private boat achieves it for a full day, with a cooked lunch and room to spread out.
Reading a pod is a skill, not a schedule
Our captain has worked Dolphin House since 2008. That length of time with one pod is worth more than any equipment on the boat. Dolphins move. If they shifted overnight, someone who has watched this group for over a decade knows which side of the reef they are likely to be on this morning, and how the wind that came through at 04:00 will have changed that. A day-trip operator running a fixed route takes you to where the dolphins usually are. A captain who reads them takes you to where they are today. This is also why we do not publish a fixed location for this trip. Publishing one would mean committing to a spot before knowing where the animals went, which is the opposite of how the day should be run.
Six is better than twelve
The boat takes up to twelve, and for a dolphin day we genuinely recommend fewer. Six is the sweet spot. The reason is noise and attention. Fewer people in the water means less splashing, which means dolphins that come closer and stay longer. It also means the captain and guide can actually watch each swimmer and position the group properly, rather than counting heads. If you are a larger party and dolphins are the priority, consider whether everyone actually wants to be in the water. A group of twelve where six swim and six watch from the deck often produces a better encounter than twelve people all entering at once. The day can be extended with a stop at Erg Marsa Mubarak on the way back if conditions allow.

Взяли лодку на всю компанию. Вышли раньше основной массы, поэтому у лагуны было тихо. Капитан подстроил маршрут под нас, никто не торопил.

Trip-specific questions
How does private improve our dolphin chances?
Two ways. We leave port at 06:30 instead of 08:00, so we are at the lagoon before the day-trip fleet wakes the pod. And the captain has read this pod since 2008, if the dolphins moved overnight, he knows which side of the reef they are on this morning.
How many guests can the boat take?
Up to 12 on the private day. Smaller is better for the dolphin encounter, less noise in the water, less competition for the captain's attention. Six is the sweet spot.
Can we extend the day to add Erg Marsa Mubarak?
Yes, when wind and tide permit, the captain can add a second snorkel stop at Erg Marsa Mubarak on the way back. That stretches the day to nine hours total. Tell us at the start of the morning so the cook plans an extra lunch.
What if the dolphins do not show up?
We do not guarantee wild encounters anywhere. On a private booking the captain will use the spare hours to track them on the outer reef instead of giving up at 11:00 like a group boat. About 90 percent of private days produce an encounter, the highest rate of any of our trips.
Does going private guarantee we see dolphins?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something they cannot deliver. What it changes is the odds and the quality: leaving at 06:30 puts you in an undisturbed lagoon, and a captain who has read this pod since 2008 knows where to look if they moved overnight. The animals still decide.
How many guests should we bring for the best encounter?
Around six. The boat holds twelve, but fewer swimmers means less noise in the water, dolphins that come closer, and a crew who can position each person properly. If you are a larger group, consider entering in shifts rather than all at once.
