About this trip
The speedboat option exists because the standard Orange Bay group boats are popular enough to feel crowded by 11:00. A 12-seat speedboat reaches the same island in 35 minutes flat, you arrive at 09:30 instead of 11:00, and you have the white sand to yourselves for the first hour. We use rigid hull boats with twin Yamaha 200s, captained by working fishermen who know which reef is current-free that morning.

What you will see underwater
Same reefs, same fish, less competition for space in the water. The early arrival means you swim with shoals of unicornfish before the bigger boats stir the silt.

Best between October and May. The smaller hull rides waves harder than the big group boats, so we cancel rather than push through choppy conditions, your booking moves to the next clean-weather day at no charge.
Travel tips
Bring a dry bag for your phone. The speedboat seats are exposed and salty. Sea-sick guests should sit toward the stern and look at the horizon, the captain has wristbands on board.

How bumpy is the speedboat ride?
On a calm morning it feels like a smooth glide. On choppier days the 35-minute crossing slaps a few times across the wake of bigger boats. We cancel rather than push through real chop, so if you are sailing, you are sailing in safe conditions.
Will I get seasick on a small speedboat?
Less than on a big slow boat, the crossing is short and you face into the wind. Take a wristband or a generic motion-sickness pill 30 minutes before boarding, sit toward the stern, keep your eyes on the horizon.
How small is the group really?
Hard cap of 12 guests on the boat, often we sail with 8 or 10. No standing-room crowd, no queue for fins. Everyone gets a numbered seat and a dry bag locker.
Why pay more for the speedboat over a group boat?
You arrive at Orange Bay an hour before the day-trip fleet, snorkel the reefs while they are still fish-active, and walk a quiet beach for the first hour. By the time the big boats arrive you have done the best of it.
