Corals & invertebrates
The reef is alive. Every coral you see is millions of tiny animals built over decades. Look, photograph, never touch.
Reef etiquette
Four rules that protect you and the reef
Look, don't touch. Everything on the reef is alive, touching kills it and can sting or cut you.
Wear water shoes in shallow rocky areas, stonefish and urchin spines are the most common injuries.
Never wear gloves on a reef. They encourage touching, which damages coral.
Use reef-safe sunscreen (oxybenzone-free). Standard sunscreen bleaches coral.
